It's bullshit.

Its almost impossible to photograph a lightning bolt without using a time-exposure. And that's probably how this image was taken.

Time-exposures make it easy to capture lightning. But can create artifacts, either due to over-exposure or movement of the bolt (yes, lightning bolts can move). The triangle is probably one of these two artifacts, or even a combination.

It could also be a raindrop on the lens.
