In the past, the tech company, owned by Japan’s SoftBank Group, has released videos showing their robots climbing stairs, executing perfect back flips and opening doors with shocking facility. The company’s latest YouTube submission: a 34-second clip of their boxy humanoid robot, Atlas, going for a jog in a grassy residential area on what appears to be a bright spring day. With his electronic appendages unleashing a animatronic whine that falls somewhere between an electronic knife and a Xerox machine, Atlas even stops to hop over a log before casually going on his bipedal way. RELATED: [People freaked out after robot dogs opened a door. Now they’re resisting humans.] In only a day, the video has racked up more than 900,000 page views, a testament to the powerful impression Boston Dynamics’s videos continually leave on viewers. For some, the Atlas is an exciting childlike underdog signaling that a Jetsons-like future is nearly upon us. [link to www.washingtonpost.com (secure)] Have no fear, Spock is here!!! LLAP |

When you pair your post with this (Google Duplex just passed the Turing test): [link to www.extremetech.com (secure)] You get a truly chilling combination. I think we are getting really close to something most people believed wouldn't happen for several years, and some thought would never happen at all. Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot can now jog freely Quoting: Digital mix guy By Trevor Mogg — Posted on May 10, 2018 - 11 Scared yet? Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot can now jog freely Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robot has been untethered and set free, which, for anyone convinced of an imminent robot uprising, is a rather worrying development. A video posted on YouTube this week shows the humanoid robot running at a fair clip across open land before jumping over a log that it finds in its path. It’s impressive stuff, and shows just how far bipedal robots have come in a short space of time. For proof, check out this amusing compilation video from a contest in 2015 showing a bunch of similarly designed robots looking as if they’ve spent a night drinking as they simply try to walk, let alone break into a jog à la Atlas. MarkinAZ User ID: 76433375 ![]() 05/12/2018 01:27 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am happy to see this kind of progress being made. How long will it be until we can have robo-nannies, robot companions for elderly who can shop, assist them, take their aging owners to appointments, clean the house, fix a meal and serve it, and do the dishes afterwards? I think that the day will come and it may be within the next 20 years or sooner. Sadly I'm sure DARPA will use the same tech to replace human soldiers on the battlefield and these wonders of technology will be used first to kill and only late to care for and nurture humanity where it needs care and nurturing the most. And of course these will cost upwards of $100k at first. But the costs will come down and production will go up and soon we'll get used to robots in the grocery store or acting as a driver or a care giver for an elderly patient. But the costs will soon be proven to be well worth it when it's obvious you're getting a servant, companion, nurse, and personal assistant all rolled into one. Remember it doesn't need to eat, sleep, etc. The Jetson's and Rosy their robot maid is drawing closer as we speak... |
