Maybe he is saluting his mother because she was the enabler that looked the other way (or grinned "that's my boy")when he was sexually using one woman after another and then disgarding them.

He wasn't saluting her as a mother -
the hat tip was for her support of his decadent immoral fraud of a life.

Women of course can be pigs -
they will raise their son's to be pigs so they feel no guilt.

Same with drunks -
parents who are drunks will attempt to have their kids drinking with them before age so they don't wreak of the drunk bum scums they really are.
Same with sexually immoral people.

This was no salute to mothers. Just him saluting another immoral comrade in a world of do what I please.
