Continued periodic heavy rainfall is expected across Florida and other parts of the SE U.S. this week.

While this was initially beneficial, the combined rains from last week and this week may result in flooding risks in some locations. Stay tuned to your local @NWS office.

What a mess regarding the forecast for Memorial Day weekend across the Gulf States. GFS stands alone with stunting tropical cyclogenesis over the GoMex as the GEM and ECMWF look similar. This will likely be the story of the week for the weather community.

New rainfall record set in Charleston, National Weather Service says

A new rainfall record was set in Charleston, National Weather Service meteorologists said on Saturday.
Measurements taken shortly after noon showed 3.47 inches had fallen, according to a tweet by the Weather Service's Charleston office. The previous record for May 19 was 0.65 inches set in 1969.

And rain continued to come down.
Measurements taken 30 minutes later showed an additional 1.38 inches had fallen, bringing the total to 4.6 inches, the Weather Service said.

Frrom the NWS in Melbourne.

Previous Discussion...

Tue-Sun...The Atlantic ridge axis will remain the dominant weather
feature with a moist south to southeast flow keeping rain chances
above normal (50 to 60 percent) most days supporting mainly daytime
showers and storms. The ridge axis is forecast to gradually shift
southward and weaken during mid to late week as a trough develops
over the Southeast US. A slight reduction in the deep moisture by
Wed will allow rain chances to decrease to 30-40 percent for most
areas. It will remain humid with max temps in the mid 80s.

Both GFS and ECMWF show a mid level trough developing over the
Gulf of Mexico late in the week. The GFS retrogrades a piece of
energy SW from the base of a departing shortwave trough off the US
east coast. The real difference is how each model handles lower
pressure at the surface. The ECMWF continues to show low pressure
developing directly underneath the upper low over the central Gulf
on Fri. This looks suspect as the best support for sfc low
pressure would be to the ascending (east) side of the upper low,
closer to the GFS solution. But both models show deep tropical
moisture overspreading the FL peninsula during the first part of
the upcoming holiday weekend which will prompt high rain chances
with a threat for heavy rain and localized flooding due to already
wet conditions.

This is the wettest winter/spring on record in Mid TN. It's about to break out right about now. I swear it was 4 solid months of rain with few sunny days all winter and through until now. Grass and mushrooms grow overnight, the poison Ivy will be virulent, the mold and mildew is everywhere it is so horrible. I am planning my escape, as the Mosquitos this year are bound to be thick as thieves, unusually so, and TN has Zika and encephalitis already.

This is why people tolerate whatever they have to in California. I am sick of this shit. Central Northern California, in a nice treeless subdivision.

Reporting in from Central Florida, here. We have had a crazy amount of rain since early last week. Not at all normal to be raining ALL DAY. Also it's a little too early, as normally the summer rains don't hit until June 1.

Very odd!

Only way lots of rain going to be of much danger to you if if you have permanent residence in a State that's Flat as a pancake. Which the State of Florida is.

Excerpt from the Miami NWS Disco...

THURSDAY INTO NEXT WEEKEND: The forecast as we end the week and head
into next weekend remains very uncertain as global models continue
to diverge in solutions. Both agree on the basic synoptic evolution,
with the Atlantic ridge breaking down as the persistent upper level
trough across the Gulf of Mexico digs further south, allowing some
type of tropical disturbance to lift north out of the Central
American gyre.

As always, the crux of the forecast is in the details. Where the
ECMWF keeps a stronger/longer lasting subtropical ridge influence,
leading to drier conditions, with rain chances increasing Friday
night into the weekend as the forecasted tropical disturbance moves
toward the central Gulf. The GFS however, keeps the ridge relatively
weaker, which allows for a faster moving disturbance in a more
northeasterly direction, though strength-wise it appears to be
suffering from some convective feedback.

For now, not too many changes with the ongoing forecast with rain
chances increasing once again late week. The potential for a return
to heavy rainfall will have to be watched.
