Your state does, through the Electoral College. The popular side of the vote determines how many people voted and who for. And that's the big flaw with the electoral college. The electors sent by the states can vote any way they want to no matter who won the state vote. You always hear about people claiming this, but it is not a reality, state constitutions are very precise in the rules. Some states like Maine split electoral votes so all counties are treated fairly. They need to do that in all states instead of winner of the popular vote takes all EC votes. Upstate NY, Orange County CA, and in places like rural PA, MA and Illinois is where your vote for president doesn't really count, because of NYC, LA, Chicago and Philadelphia. That is why conservative people in those states stay usually stay home. Trump got people in rural PA to come out which was huge, but eliminating the electoral college means that LA, NYC and Boston always decide who will be president. Our country would be in civil war within a decade. |
