Maybe they will stop. But then these little punks will hit them up on their cell phones, social media. No discipline allows these students to harass teachers all day long. |

The problem with any absolutes in this business, is that being a good and effective teacher depends on such a wide variety of variables, and so many external factors, that no one's opinion is exactly right. And in my many years of experience with colleagues, teachers generally want and need someone TO BE RIGHT. But what if there is no exact right answer? I also find many of my colleagues, some of whom I see outside of work, do not ask very many questions. Ever. About anything. That seems odd to me. Kids constantly ask questions, because they are learning and adapting to the world. It's healthy to be curious about the world you live in. What works for one teacher will not work for another. I have very clearly seen and understood that given the same lesson plan, same activities, same materials and students, two teachers will RARELY IF EVER be able to deliver the same lesson. Because so much of it comes from your personality, persona, convictions, ideas, priorities, etc. A good teacher could teach kids to watch paint dry. At least for a few minutes. I understand this teachers frustration and she makes some very valid arguments, but I don't agree with all of her points. It is clear she is committed to her work and I'm thankful there are teachers like her around. The only constant in nature is change, and our survival depends on how we adapt to it. That is the most important lesson I have ever learned. |

Teachers are brain-dead government employees who can't compete in the real world. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71533971 If the situation is really that bad (and it is), then let's just abolish public education. It's a bad investment and I could care less what happens to "the kids." Apparently you fail to understand that teaching in a public school is about as close to the real world as you are ever going to get. Especially if you get assigned somewhere. I won't clutter up your generalities with any nuance since I don't like to use concepts others can't quite grasp. |
