Germany’s Der Spiegel Calls Italians Ungrateful ‘Moochers’

Der Spiegel magazine has aggravated tensions between Germany and Italy with a contemptuous article accusing the Italians of being ungrateful “moochers” who are pulling Europe into a crisis reminiscent of Greece’s. “In Rome, populists with their anti-euro course seriously endanger the European project,” Der Spiegel announces in this week’s issue. “They are dragging their country and Europe into the next big crisis after the Greek drama and the Brexit decision.”

The scornful cover depicts spaghetti twirled on a fork, hanging down in the shape of a noose, with the caption “Ciao Amore: Italy is destroying itself and dragging down Europe with it.” ..
