Bird shot is for birds.

Human body fat absorbs ALOT of the intial impact just like the cushioning it really is. That's why it takes a 30-30 -and sometimes multiple shots- to bring down really BIG game! BTW: I live in a townhouse, and while my Mossberg 500 is normally loaded with birdshot, the sidesaddle also has both buck and slug loads. Just in case! At 6'-8' anyone you could "shred" with birdshot is going to take three steps forward and take it away from you. He could knock you out with a baseball bat. I'm trying not to sound nasty but I'm angry. Some people have training and instinct to jump a gun. They will be on you with all they've got and beat you to a pulp, with your birdshot that doesn't penetrate drywall and kill the neighbors. If you are very timid and frail and are bothered by naked rapists slipping in your bedroom window at night I guess this is a good idea. You can shred the bad guy without damaging your leather upholstery. Otherwise, it's unnecessary provocation and escalation of threat. 12 ga. 7 1/2 shot to the face and chest at 6 ft will stop any human unless they are fully armoured.
