Tilt of the Earth !!!What is a Solstice? | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 71433356 United States 06/21/2018 08:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The tilt in the axis of the Earth is called its obliquity by scientists. The tilt in Earth’s axis is strongly influenced by the way mass is distributed over the planet. Large amounts of land mass and ice sheets in the northern hemisphere make Earth top-heavy. An analogy for obliquity is imagining what would happen if you were to spin a ball with a piece of bubble gum stuck near the top. The extra weight would cause the ball to tilt when spun. The Earth is currently decreasing in obliquity. Decreases in obliquity can set the stage for more moderate seasons (cooler summers and warmer winters) while increases in obliquity create more extreme seasons (hotter summers and colder winters). Glaciers tend to grow when the Earth has many cool summers that fail to melt back the winter snows. Remember, we’re talking about a 41,000-year cycle here, so these changes in obliquity are not the primary driver of Earth’s climate in the century ahead. Temperatures on Earth are influenced not just by obliquity, but also by many more factors which drive our complex climate system and the global temperatures we experience from year to year. Other planets in our solar system also tilt at various degrees. [link to earthsky.org] great article from 2016 |

Makes more sense that the sun is closer smaller and locally illuminating. The so called "tilt of the earth" doesn't explain why the sun is well above the horizon for well over 15 hours a day with visible sunlight for nearly 18 hours. This phenomenon doesn't make sense on a ball earth that supposedly spins once every 24 hours, especially considering that where I live and observe this is no where near the poles, not even close. In addition when you start to look at things like how you can feel the heat of the sun when it's directly overhead, but when it's closer to the horizon, you can't feel the heat. Longer days in the summer and shorter days in the winter are better explained with a smaller, closer locally illuminating sun. And since you are a christian I would like to remind you that the bible says the earth is fixed on pillars and doesn't move. This is contradictory to the theory that we are on a ball flying through space. Good Luck though. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 42079668 United States 06/21/2018 08:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 1 Chronicles 16:30: "He has fixed the earth firm, immovable." Psalm 93:1: "Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm ..." Psalm 96:10: "He has fixed the earth firm, immovable ..." Psalm 104:5: "Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken." Isaiah 45:18: "...who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast..." It doesn't say the earth is "fixed in orbit" because if you actually believe that we are on a ball flying through space, we are still traveling, moving, not "fixed". There is no way you can twist the verses around to fit the model we are told ( balls flying through space ) and if you do you are changing the meaning of the bible to fit your world view. Good Luck. |
