You have done the math, I assume. That's about $2400 per month. Average rent for 1 bedroom in Mass is over $1100. That leaves about $300 per week for EVERYTHING else (food, transport, dentist, medical, school supplies, fun... You don't have to be a socialist to realize that the Walmart business model doesn't live up to the American dream (except for the Waltons)...

Your math makes the assumption that someone is only working ONE minimum wage job. If you have bills that are X and income that is only 0.6X then you either cut your costs or increase your revenue. People who have the will to improve their situation always find a way to do better.

The unintended consequences of this will be increased automation such as self checkouts, kiosks at fast food counters, etc.

This has NOTHING to do with “ Living Wages” and everything to do with increasing TAX REVENUE on the backs of the working poor.

Simple math tells us that raising the minimum wage lowers the buying power of said wage, because it will be taxed at a higher percentage, thus lowing the value.

Nobody has factored in here..if you are making 15 an hour and you paying 30% in taxes you are only getting 10.5 and hour. So increasing the wages was a way for the state to collect more taxes, move people into another tax bracket and God help ya if you have state health insurance..your premiums will no longer be free you will be expected to contribute. I agree with others here..what about those already making 15 an hour..will they get more pay? It's all about taxes. If these people are on section 8 then they will be paying more to the state for their rent and if they were collecting foodstamps..oh boy..they will be losing some of that too. LOL.. Massachusetts is crazy. I live here and it's just plain nuts.
