I suspect the real question should be whether any food is safe from prions. If, like some others, CDW prions are confined to the deers' brain and spinal cord tissue, then the answer is probably that it's safe. Our environment is fucked up and there's a fair chance that nothing is 100% safe. I'd probably go ahead and make the jelly, but I'd wash the dandelions very carefully. Even if there are no prions, there are tons of other contaminants. Everybody dies of something. You can be free of prions and Yellowstone erupting can still get you. If we worry about every aspect of our lives, we're shortchanging life. That said, if it's really concerning, hold off until next year and use dandelions from an enclosed area. More deplorable all the time. |
