Chinese telecom company HUAWEI says it won't comply with Chinese laws requiring it to spy for Chinese govt
So either this Chinese company obeys Chinese law, and spies for the Chinese govt. Or, they don't obey Chinese law, which makes them a bunch of criminals!! How can they be trusted either way? Either they are spies or they are criminals that disobey laws! This is truly bizarre.

China-based communications firm Huawei has sought to salvage its bid for a slice of Australia’s 5G mobile network by vowing it would never comply with Chinese laws that could imperil the data privacy of Australian customers.

Ahead of a Turnbull government decision on whether to bar the firm from supplying equipment to 5G, the chairman of Huawei Australia, John Lord, has said the firm has legal advice stating it is not subject to onerous Chinese laws that demand companies provide information to the government in Beijing.

He also called on “some western political and business leaders” to accept that it was now “impossible to turn back” China’s juggernaut momentum in technology development.

MPs from both major parties have in recent weeks raised concerns that China’s National Intelligence Law, passed last year, compels “all organisations and citizens” to help the country’s intelligence work. And article 38 of China’s cyber security law compels a telecommunications firm such as Huawei to alert the government of any vulnerabilities they identify, raising fears Beijing-backed hackers could exploit the exposure of Huawei customers in Australia.

Mr Lord acknowledged Huawei complied with a number of other laws in China such as having a mandatory Communist Party branch within the company and limiting share ownership to Chinese nationals. Asked how Huawei could resist an approach by the Chinese government asking for data on Australian customers, Mr Lord said: “Well, we just won’t do it.”

so...

* every Chinese citizen and company is required to spy for the Chinese govt

* almost all the computers in the world are made in China

* pretty much no companies or govts in the world take computer security seriously

* computers are used to store sensitive and secret information by almost every company and govt in the world

* President Trump is starting a trade war with China

* China is spreading its tentacles through the third world with its Belt And Road Initiative

things could get real "interesting" real fast!!
