If the yogi encourage the selfish pursuit of self development, I would think it would be for the purpose training the self
towards mastery of meditative arts as a means to an end. Neither prayer nor
Charitable acts are without result of some kind, even if outcome remains the same, that is still a result. I would think it best if employed together.
Many times, prayer/meditation is the only action available.

I'm not well versed in LOO terminology so I may be out of my element here, but it reminds me of the "spiritual bypassing" concept basically saying if you haven't done your psychological work, and all you want to do is meditate, or otherwise consider yourself spiritually accomplished, then you may be in denial and won't progress as intended. I'm kind of a purist in the sense that I think focusing on the highest will take care of the lower stages as well. I think each should decide where they feel is progress and what is appealing. Even among yogis, paths greatly differ. Someone asked Neem Karoli Baba, a well-known yogi, how to find God. He answered, "feed people." Your seeking is well focused. No doubt your train of thought is in the right direction. I share your beliefs as well. The only thing if differ with is your beliefs that taking care of the highest will cause the lowest to fall into place. It seems to me that the creator set us a system of development starting low, and working up progressively through the densities. Like grade school we must learn the small lessons in order to apply them to more complex problems later in our development. Therefore, it's important to be focused on the catalyst of our current incornation, and not try to skip the easy stuff in order to advance more quickly. But this is just my opinion.
