Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 76725199 United States 07/03/2018 08:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i have a better job lined up, and i don't plan to ever return to this employer that i'm leaving, but i feel bad for giving such short notice, but the way i look at it....it's not worth the risk of them screwing me out of my unused vacation to do the "right thing". |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76730161 Canada 07/03/2018 09:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If they really walk you out the moment you give notice, then 3 days is plenty but only if you tell them why you are giving them short notice. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76687758 You might change the culture. If they immediately walk you out then give them 2 weeks notice. Try get a letter of reference(whether you need it or not, get it anyways if you can) So, take your holidays, then when you come back give them 2 weeks, get letter of ref., then let them walk you to the door . |

There's laws even with union jobs and this is one that screws over shitty additude employers. Unless they can prove gross negligence they will have, to pay you for those two weeks. It's law. :Pirate Flag: 8-14-2018 The day Free Speech died in America |

Apparently you don't want to use them as a reference ever. You also don't want a job with this union ever again. If you think unions suck go find a job in a right to work state. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 33207150 Canada 07/03/2018 11:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to work at the head office of a wallpaper place in England about 35 years ago. Anyway, they began noticing that contract sales, taken by the call centre in London, kept falling for Scotland. After a couple of months they tried calling the sales showroom but all they got was the recorded message saying that they were busy. Finally, the owner and managing director drove up to Scotland to discover a note on the door saying that the keys were at the Police Station. It transpired that their primary competitor had gone into the showroom, offered everyone there, including the showroom manager, a fat payout to just walk out and join them and they had locked up the showroom and gone to work for the competitor FOUR MONTHS previously. And, since they were paid on commission, they had continued to be paid tens of thousands on existing contracts over that time. (The Managing Director found the three resignation letters on the showroom manager's desk when he finally gained entry). |
