CNBC: "Private payrolls miss expectations as companies can't find enough people to hire"
[link to www.cnbc.com (secure)]

Private payrolls grew at a disappointing rate last month as businesses struggled to find enough new hires, ADP and Moody’s Analytics said Thursday.

Jobs in the U.S. grew by 177,000 in June, ADP and Moody’s Analytics’ report said, while economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected a gain of 190,000. June also marked the fourth straight month of jobs growth below 200,000. Jobs growth for the previous month, however, was revised up by 11,000 to 189,000.

“Business’ number one problem is finding qualified workers,” Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, said in a statement. “At the current pace of job growth, if sustained, this problem is set to get much worse. These labor shortages will only intensify across all industries and company sizes. ”

Medium-sized businesses, which employ between 50 and 499 people, added 80,000 payrolls in June, while large businesses added 69,000 jobs. Meanwhile, small businesses, which employ between one and 49 people, saw payrolls increase by 29,000.

Service providers added 148,000 payrolls, led by gains in education and health services as well as leisure and hospitality. Education and health services payrolls grew by 46,000 jobs last month while leisure and hospitality jobs grew by 33,000. Information technology, however, saw a contraction of 2,000 jobs in June.

The goods-producing sector, meanwhile, added 29,000 jobs, led by gains in construction and manufacturing of 13,000 and 12,000, respectively.

The gains come amid concerns that a tight jobs market could put upward pressure on wages and generate an inflation spike that would force the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates faster than the market anticipates.

The report from ADP and Moody’s comes ahead of the U.S. government’s monthly nonfarm payrolls report, which is scheduled for release Friday at 8:15 a.m. ET.

Re: CNBC: "Private payrolls miss expectations as companies can't find enough people to hire"
Part of the reason these companies cannot find workers is the shitty wages they want to pay. In the early 80's a top notch welder could make 30-40 per hour plus per diem. Once oil crashed in the 80's and Reagan "permanately replaced" the air trafficl controllers, companies saw the way to bust union labor and wages started falling. They still are in real terms.

While unions caused a lot of their own problems with the corruption, graft, abuse of power, etc. The anti-union sentiment of the past 30 years has created the problem we see today. As union labor lost members, the apprenticeship training programs in the skilled trades dropped tremendously. The rise of the "merit" shop created downward pressure on wages and benefits and the training programs put in place to replace the apprenticeship programs were pretty shitty. These training programs are finally starting to catch up but there is a huge skills gap out there.

Supply and demand will eventually force companies to raise wages to attract good, qualified workers but it will take a while.

That's true. Why is Trump still not punishing these employers who favor the foreign workers over American workers ?

We have seen cut backs on employees, not hiring them.
There has been a decrease in the amount of them just about everywhere you look, here.

This is what our Company wanted and for a good reason.

I work in IT and am on the job hunt. It sure would help if companies didn't have a "must have" list that crosses many IT disciplines. Asking for that is like asking a doctor to be an excellent brain surgeon and ground breaking foot doctor with a side in research....all why training a huge team of idiots that don't know what a blood pressure cuff looks like....based in India.

This was made very public when Trump invited a Dayton OH business owner to a debate.

The first thing this business owner asks potential employees is "Can you pass a drug test?"
Nearly every one of them answers "No".

You know business leaders, it is partially your fault for allowing our education system to faulter to such a point were the student product is politically indoctrinated in contrary to your interests but also lack the necessary root abilities and mental attitude to perform within your institutions. You crapped in your bed and now sleep in it. Time to get rid of the department of education and move it back to the States at the local level and inspire competition and excellence once again.

Because whatever the American worker would get for a fair wage, the H1B Visa Non-Citizen will do it for cheaper.

And guess what, Indian consulting companies do not shy away from "rewarding" hiring managers within companies for placing "consultants" on their staff. I've literally seen straight-up cash paid on the down low.
I'm not from Canada, not that there's anything wrong with that.....

Interesting comment, I guess.

I think they need to offer serious job training programs, including the basics "how to have a job" "how to be an employee" besides the actual skills.

The number one reason liberals want illegals is for this very reason because it keeps businesses from raising their pay rates to attract people.
