When Hillary fainted at the podium while giving a speech on 9-11 and was dragged, unconscious, to the van, and the video was taken down every time it popped up in popular media, I think that is when many, many more people (not just Americans) began to actively question the motivation of mass media.

And then when all the pundits were raving about Hillary's win up until late at night when it became obvious that Trump won, I think that sealed the outright derision most people feel for "journalists".

They can blame Trump all they want. It is the American people themselves who do not trust the media.
