I suspect many western diseases and illnesses are due to exposure to metal. It does not necessarily mean that iron or steel is leeching into your body. When you insert a metallic object into your mouth, the saliva acts as an electrolyte and creates an electric potential in your mouth - especially if you have metallic tooth fillings! chopsticks were used for cooking (they're perfect for reaching into pots full of hot water or oil) DUH |

Ancient cultures did not have "stainless steel". The ones that had silver used it for utensils. The answer could be as simple as sticking any other metal in your mouth and see how it tastes. Most are quite distaseful...lol I want to say "metallic tasting". Wooden utensels are more likely to collect bacteria, which is why they are better used for cooking (a process that kills the live bacteria on the spoon when you stir the boiling pot) than eating with, and cramming that bacteria laced food into your mouth. But hey, don't take anyone's word for it, go whittle yourself a spoon and fork (good luck whittling a knife lol). See if it helps increase your health over a long term. |

You should consider that silver or iron for example reacts with acidic food, but that that will not harm you at all, silver and iron are not bad for you. On the other hand you might know that you need metals to produce glass, to clear and colour them. Glass unlike metal is not solid, so when you do anything other from drinking from it, the force you use will break out small particles of the glass which you will incorporate. The metals used for colouring glass are all toxic. Ceramic is even worse, because the process of making it hard enough(glazing) uses toxic substances, those are even eroding into your drink, so you should not even drink from glazed ceramic. |

As the price dropped for the bass material some cultures adopted them due to durability and reduced likelihood of getting sick.
