I need a whole home water filter ASAP. I can’t beleive these water treatment companies just pump our water full of chemicals and call it “clean” and “healthy”. So many chemicals it smells like a hotel jacuzzi. What can I do GLP fam?

The worst part is the pasta I boiled for dinner had a hint of chlorine when I took a bite. Had to throw it out and start over with bottled water.

Most likely chlorine or chloramines- not healthy strictly speaking but arguably less unhealthy than the stuff it kills which is only potentially present part of the time. There are commercial filters that will remove it at the tap or from all your incoming water (think $$$) , alternatively you can aerate it for 18-24 hours which is a big PITA but close to free.

I’d probably go with the filtration route, too bad whole home filters are big money. Didn’t have this problem at my old house, I guess living on the outskirts of town has its pros and cons.

Hell of it is, people are so used to water being the closest thing to free that you still have to pay for that even though municipal water systems COULD in fact produce cleaner chemical free water the public would pitch a fit at the rate increases it would take to update the equipment.

To each their own but I'm personally not very concerned about super clean water as long as it's not going in my body, certainly not enough to buy and maintain a whole house system. As you said, it sure does make a difference in the taste of food though.

Housing is made for profit not for health. Your water is def loaded with chlorine and I would not drink that shyt. Filter that water at least once, maybe 3 times over before drinking it

My gawd, OP, you must live in NC somewhere! The water is totally screwed since they've added chloramines here as a super bug killer. Big time practice of waste water treatment facilities in Triad area of my state.

Bottle water for drinking, cooking. Get a whole house filtration system ASAP since steam from shower/bath ain't all that healthy when it comes to long term exposure.

Yep NC, Charlotte area. Gotta do something about it. It may be clean but it’s not safe for consumption or bathing.

I wonder if I can get a movement going to change it. It’s undrinkable, I’ve been researching and people who consume chlorinated drinking water have a 93% higher chance of developing cancer and heart related issues than those who do not.

Sell out and move outside of town and buy or build a place with a well, our water is amazing.

You can go to Publix if they have one in your area, they sell the big water jugs for extra cheap, and you can get them refilled for even cheaper

It’s an option, not a very viable one for me at the moment but it’s an option nonetheless.

Think I’m going to get it tested, according to the water treatment company it hasn’t been tested since August 2017 and that read 1.3ppm for chlorine. Apparently up to 2ppm is undetectable by taste or smell so they’re obviously fudging the numbers a bit.

Good news is no fluoride, so that’s a plus. Think I’m going to have it tested and see what comes out of it.

The ideal thing would be to have a well, then run the water through a gravity feed filter. I have to for my Kefir Water, otherwise the poisoned city water will kill the Kefir grains.

Also noticed the dogs are no longer getting those bumps and pollups on their skin since changing their water to filtered well water.

Get a whole-house RO waster filter if you can afford it.

If not, just start with one under your kitchen sink, especially if you cook a lot.

Yeah I’ll start with the under sink filter for now, we cook almost every meal so at least that’s a start. Won’t help with the ice maker and showers though but the under sink system will cut out about half of the problem.

Thankfully tests show no fluoride so I’m actually pretty happy about that.

My daughter was there for school last semester and she said it was beyond horrible. I'm moving her back next month and I'm putting a filtered shower head on her shower and one on the kitchen sink. Not too expensive if you have a smaller place. I have an apt and bought one for the kitchen sink, the shower and keep bottled water as well.

They're the big ones at the front end of the store. The kind you see in office buildings, warehouses, etc. 5-10gal water jugs. Less than $10. The glacier water machines outside the store are what can be used to refill.

If you get a gravity fed water filter, the smell will go.
