As for the gnostic writings they have historical errors and no relevance to the time of Christ, its a fake greek Jesus with no ties to the old testament and ancient Israel. The real Jesus stand on the old testament, and the old testament is for example verified in the dead sea scrolls, and the new testament stand on the old testament. Thats one of the reasons we know that the gnostic "Jesus" is a fake. The gnostic fake "Jesus" is a bit like arguing that Hitler was the illiterate 7th century caravanrobber and child molester that started islam, and established the first islamic caliphate in China.

RCC persecuted them because they were competition for the various emperor's favor to be the prime religion of the Caesars

Gnostics were condemned by Ireneaus around 115 A.D. .. LONG before Romanism came along.

Gnostics and gnostic gospels are known fakes and heretics from the earliest church records.

Gnostics are the true Christians. They understood the esoteric truths. It's the "Church" cult that twisted the meanings with their surface-level exoteric fairytales.

It doesn't matter. The early Church fell into heresy due to their refusal to follow Christ's teachings and their own self importance.
