The TV paid subscription model is on a death march. Another 5 million subscribers projected to cancel over rates.
Subscription cancellations will cost the pay-TV industry billions in lost subscription revenue, as cancellations mount.

The consulting firm cg42 projects Over 5 Million U.S. Consumers Will Cut the Cord in 2018.

Cg42 estimates a total of 5.4 million U.S. consumers will cut the cord in 2018, resulting in a $5.5 billion loss in revenue. This compares to 4.8 million in 2017 and 3.8 million in 2016.

"As the process of finding alternative paths to content gets easier and easier, people are acting on the frustrations they have with traditional providers and leaving," the study's lead author and cg42 managing partner Stephen Beck told MarketWatch.

Why should people pay 100s of $ yearly for TV when they can get most of what they want on the internet?

Only pay-per-view streaming will survive...not 'blanket' subscriptions

I don't get why it is so expensive in the UK. When i had sky full pack it was about 90 quid with net,

Here i get the same pack but rebadged as star sports etc but all the same, full pack minus the net but inc all ppv so UFC/Boxing etc in HD for $5 a month, about 3-75 pounds.
Why is there such a huge difference in price given sky are selling it to India who then sell it to Nepal lol?

Just yet another case of rip off Britain but it seems the same all over the west? Just Greedy corp's i reckon? Surely twice as many subscribers at say 40% less price is better than a few at high price?

Have not had tv in years. Watched some at a friend's house the other day, and the commercials were off the chart! More of them than the show, and most were about pharmaceuticals. Who needs that crap??? I'd rather be on GLP.

We are very unhappy with DTV but are at odds as to how to proceed without it...

...mostly we like the guide so we can plan or DVR our viewing. What good is 50-100 channels if they all go to commercial break at the same time.

Since the MSM hates this administration the FCC should go after the 'collusion' of staging commercials across the board and hit the industry in their pocketbook.

Re: The TV paid subscription model is on a death march. Another 5 million subscribers projected to cancel over rates.
theeee original deal was COMMERCIAL FREE paid TV
so how did it all degenerate to
people paying for regular broadcast style shyte ?
and then OUTRAGEOUS FEES TO CANCEL ?
i have no paperwork from DISH and they claim i am under contract.
and it COSTS LESS to retain them than a cancellation fee.
and NO WAY DO THEY HAVE ACCESS to MY credit card the same-card was called in missing/new one new acct number immediately done after sign on-

why CAN'T anything get done here ?
regarding the internet ? due to location the service available IS via satellite, another RIP OFF as they can give you SATELLITE TV 24/7 for 20 bucks a month BUT satellite internet w/strict limitations on use is double--
so for some of us streaming etc is out of the question.
sure we can go back to using a phone land line
and how much OF A RIP OFF IS THAT BS NOW ? simply maintaining a DIAL TONE COSTS WHAT ???? that went bye bye a long time ago, thanks gawd for tracfone triple minutes etc.
POS reconditioned phones WORK FINE all the time.

none of this should be ongoing.
patiently awaiting for TSHTF scenario

People are getting fed up with social engineering programming, shit quality entertainment and the fact you still are flooded with TV commercials even though you have to pay for it too.

We dumped it all 2 years ago including Nexflix.

In the 70s and 80s the whole point of getting cable was that there were no commercials. Now you pay and end up watching 29 minutes of content per hour vs 31 minutes of ads. I had a cable cutting party in 2006. Took a sledgehammer to my old TV and haven't looked back. Now when I am somewhere with a blaring tv I get anxious and have to leave. Anything I want to watch can be found online and my adblock takes care of the ads for me. The world has changed with the internet but instead of getting with the times the cable companies dug their heals in and tried to squeeze more revenue out of an archaic model. I don't know anyone anymore that has a tv.

This.

It makes zero sense from a business aspect. Why do they continue to bombard us with ads ? Direct now has ads for On Demand! With NO fast forward or rewind ! They just keep pounding these ads making me ready to cancel . And as a result, I buy LESS from these crooks .

Cut the cord about 10 days ago.

Haven't noticed at all.

There's things I want to watch, but the WHOLE cable package - F that.

I have an antenna and Playstation Vue. It has a DVR feature. I get everything I had before for under $50, where the cable was about $150.

It sucks for them because their service is way easy to use. Way easier and more fun than finding extacly what I want online and grabbing exactly that.

my own experience of course. But I have been without it for a long time. Honestly I think what will happen if they don't all go out of business is many channels will get the axe, and plenty of people will stick with it. But with public companies you never know.

Re: The TV paid subscription model is on a death march. Another 5 million subscribers projected to cancel over rates.
With the advent of LTE and now 5G, the infrastructure of Television has been replaced with a computer that has more power than the entire NASA CONTROL CENTER in Houston when Neil Armstrong first walked on the Moon.

Broadcast Television will be the HAM RADIO of this generation with a massive infrastructure worth BILLIONS only a decade ago will be reduced to PUBLIC ACCESS INDOCTRINATION PROPAGANDA and Pay Per View movies and concerts and speeches and campaign rallies to support your local candidates.

President Trump could put FAKE NEWS AND MEDIA out of business by prioritizing LTE and 5G expansion throughout rural America.

Just like the GOVERNMENT owns the licensing rights for BROADCAST TELEVISION which was co-opted by HOLLYWOOD through the FCC, the EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM can be used to President Trump’s advantage using the existing cell tower infrastructure to create a DIGITAL PUBLIC BROADCASTING APP for all smartphones to campaign and fundraise while reporting REAL NEWS straight from the Administration.

President Trump could even have his own nightly and weekly show or podcast or whatever to combat the ESTABLISHMENT PROPAGANDA NARRATIVE.

President Trump can create a GOVERNMENT DIGITAL SOCIAL MEDIA MONOPOLY to counter The Establishment’s CIA subsidized FACEBOOK AND GOOGLE dominance through innovative multimedia applications from MEMES to GIFS as MODERN COMMERCIALS instituting a conservative platform to seed generations of minds essentially benching the ESTABLISHMENT CONTROLLED FCC by creating an entirely new agency to oversee and regulate all DIGITAL CONTENT to combat FACEBOOK CENSORSHIP AND YOUTUBE CENSORSHIP much in the same way that channels have to provide equal airtime to opposing political views.

President Trump can reconstitute the Smith-Mundt Act as a charter for this new DIGITAL PIRACY AGENCY to combat FAKE NEWS and ONLINE PROPAGANDA as a future prophylactic mechanism to prevent this ESTABLISHMENT CONTROLLED MEDIA PROPAGANDA COUP about Russian Collusion from happening again.

Time to go on the offensive Mr. President.

We cut our cord last month. On a very fixed income. Told them $130 a month was our absolute limit. They started claiming our bill was $160 a month. We can't pay that. So then it was $310 then $470. We got internet and phone for $75 a month and don't miss the three shows we watched on cable.

Cutting the cord has its pluses and minuses. DVR is hard to manage, if you do Sling they have it as an option, but it only works with (some) of their channels and definitely not with any other streaming service you have/use.

Lots of available online content for streaming, free or cheap, but no way to "program" or organize any of it.

That being said, I love Pluto-TV

No more Netflix for me, not after the Drag Tots kwap. I haven't accessed them since that, and won't in the future.

I haven't had TV for I don't know how long, at least a decade, and I don't miss it for one second.

I stream....ohyeah

In the same vein of thought I left World of Warcraft over it's $15 a month subscription. If it was $9.95 I would be back but $15 is just too much. I'm a casual anyway playing maybe 20 hours a week.

I'm back to maining Secret World Legends and League of Legends (for pvp.)
