Look I'm happy the GDP is going up and think Trump is doing well for the economy.

However the underlying problems with our fiscal system are NOT fixed nor is there an easy solution to fix them.

Only current remedy is more Debt and constant growth. It's not sustainable indefinitely that is a Fact.

Our money is backed by "The full faith and Credit of the United States Government " an illusion of value nothing else.

I don't think a collapse is coming in the near future or possibly even in my lifetime. But at some point the fiscal system has to change. And it's only speculation on what that will look like at this point

Look at the unemployment graph up to 2016 and compare to today and yes it is up a little but by no means is this a recovery on the contrary it is still in great decline.

The author of the article redefined the formula for GDP to include debt expansion.

IS this a more precise way to estimate GDP, perhaps but it's NOT the way it's been done for a long time.

There are TWO concepts when measuring anything. Accuracy and precision.

Accuracy is about how consistent the measurements are, think about shot groupings while precision describes how close to the center you are.

You are making an argument for PRECISION when the trend lines as compared to past years is an ACCURATE way to estimate if things are moving in a positive direction or not.

I'll take the ACCURACY of the trend lines indicating that Trumps's SHOT GROUPING is significantly TIGHTER than Obama's. That's progress to me.

Problem is the American worker has lost full faith and credit in the u.s government.

When that happens nothing is backing the dollar.

Why work harder and longer and give out life changing ideals when you get tax into poordom.

Why do anything to for the betterment of society when all society wants to do it leech off you and believe you owe them something?

Why work and save just to have it stolen/taken from you?

Why kiss a governments ass that just pushes you to the back of the line for a cheaper less educated worker?

Greed is what killed this motherfkr and its not over.

Re: Oh look! economy in the toilet!
The same greed that started the American slave labor movement is running the show today.

America got great after the great depression. People understood the value of work and money.

That is lacking.ww2 was designed and created to bring the usa out of the great depression.

Yes , everything is evil but for the long term greater good.

We need a great depression.People need to suffer again.

Soup lines for 4 million people in every city.Just happens these days people are total shit and can not get along. It will be mass chaos in the streets. Thats the reason they are inflating shit to the moon. Loss of control.

The Government has LOST control of the population.Fear of elitist losing their power and wealth. Its coming tho.

You're right! The full debasement of the dollar has come to the end of it's cycle just as was planned by the Fed over a hundred years ago. Only ending the Fed and going back to constitutional prescribed currency will restore value and take it back from the banksters.

Re: Oh look! economy in the toilet!
You must know they used to love Trump, even thought he was a nice part of them, they could say and do anything they wanted in-front of him, just as they would anyone who just there you know, just like furniture.

You would be surprise how much is known because they do not think about the maids, the butlers, the waiter and the waitress, cook and the other cleaners, house hold help, nothing people to them. You would think they would know, they have not one bit of common sense to understand, word gets around.

You do not try to kill people, and they are trying to destroy Trump and his family. People not only talk about killing him they have tried it.

Do not worry what going to happen is going to happen and nothing can stop it, it been coming a long time, you know about the storm, become riders of the storm because you going to need to be one with the storm or going over a cliff.

Depression was going on since 2008, most would say they are liars because they have not recovered since Clinton pushed NAFTA.

I'll say it was better went we were at least backed with gold and silver, and not much credit. No just in time deliveries, you had warehoused close and stock in house in grocery stores and others. The just in time was consumerism which destroys your life. You do not need new things every year or so, you need working things that are made to last.

Something or more people need the products because of other reason and some little difference that does not effect the older models but some people just can not stop buying the new models.

I have a Hobart stand mixer, it before kitchen aid, it still works very well. Motor is fine, grinds everything. You have more refurbished kitchen aids than the old kitchen aids that came from the Hobart mixer when they bought the company. This is a sample that just letting you understand it a throw away consumerism that has more mess to clean up than in the past. Pollution, toxic waste, they destroying the earth for something they can not take with them, money or anything else.
Sorry I got a headache

These are the times that tries men's and
women's souls!

May we come though it victorious!

Because your Trumpette echo chamber here on GLP is better I suppose?

OP is telling the truth, and you MAGA koolaid drinkers HATE it.

For the millionth time time Trumpettes, what happened to that 'Big fat ugly bubble' Trump used to talk about?
Why should we blindly believe in the market numbers and job numbers now that Trump is president?

Can any MAGA chumps ever answer that simple question?

Hey, you DO KNOW, that it's all DEBT DRIVEN. Did all of these purchases come from Bernout Sanders? Is this Free Shit? Did they pay CASH? Or perhaps, steady as she goes, did each one of those $30-60,000 vehicles come with an auto loan, an interest rate, and a payoff schedule.

You're playing with semantics, and while an intelligent discourse that was, and in a much needed positive vibe, reality is, it's the same smoke behind the same mirrors.

The way things have been done "for a long time" are at an impasse with the way things need to be done, from now on, truly moving forward.

I wish the positive numbers were indicative of truth, but they're based on false assumptions, massive gubbernmint expenditures, and a shell game with data...

As Unemployed and Underemployed age, become disenfranchised and/or obsolete either way, they fade away as unemployable, therefore not counting in the "unemployment figures". Only those seeking employment while registered with "unemployment agencies" are counted. Do you get it yet?

I don't have a Bachelor of Economics so I'm not an authoritative source on this subject.

I've wondered for a long time whether when they spoke about growth they weren't talking about a mild inflation of the money supply resulting in increasing asset prices to produce a wealth effect whilst reducing purchasing power of the dollar.

It seems like Central Bankers are enamored with Keynesian economics and I think it's a bad thing because price stability ensures the future generations will be able to have the American dream by owning property.

By inflating asset prices you eventually make property owners wealthy, but to the detriment of their progeny who can't afford to own property due to stagnating wages of increased competition for jobs...

Many millennials will look to their baby boomer parents as their only hope to have the American dream they've been sold since birth. Sure some will "make it" but most will flounder watching porn and playing Xbox.

It seems readily apparent to me that the source of joy of the baby boomers will be the thing that destroys their legacy, when their children fail to carry on their family due to depression or addiction caused by the lack of plenty their parents enjoyed.

=======
I've said it before; Trump can't make America great again unless he can reinflate the asset prices to bolster American wealth by paying off the debts already incurred...

Unless Americans become more credit worthy by paying off their debts, they won't experience the growth the Baby Boomers lived through.
