DGN, you seem to think all mutations are bad. What about TRIM5 in two separate species of monkeys? Through a mutation, the TRIM5 protein was able to merge with Cyclophilin A. The results of this mutation were the development of TRIM5-CypA which offered better protection in these monkeys from retroviruses. A mutation improving survival. Evolution.
