We do need the senators to be appointed by their respective State legislatures. The Senate is supposed to be where the State government receives its federal representation. But it proved too difficult to steal the States individual sovereignty when they were reoresented. And let the States regulate almost everything. The federal right to regulate interstate commerce really was all about keeping it free. They didn't want the States trying to impose tariffs or subsidize business in competition with one another. If Californians want gay marriage and abortion at 8 1/2 months let them. If Arkansans want no abortion and teachers with guns so be it. It really would solve so many problems. |
