This reminds me of that story, a couple/few years back, where the group (5 or so) kids who just graduated top-end/Ivy League college. They were instantly picked up by a major Fortune 500 company...a very high honor.

They spent a couple of days in meetings/orientation, so to speak, prior to the first official day of work. The rules and policies were gone over stuff, you know.

So the first day of work, they arrived and "pow-wowed" together and by the end of the day were "worked up" over the formal corporate dress code...like top of the line suits etc...no messing around level.

So at the end of that day they submitted a petition/complaint about the dress code and how unfair it was.

The next day, they ALL were met at their desks and escorted off the property and instructed that their employment was immediately ceased and they were banned from the property permanently. Supposedly the "exit" was swift and intense...supposedly "boot to the ass" level stuff!

And after the fact this pack of entitled idiots NEVER got it and felt oppressed and screwed.

So my point is this; we don't always get our way and often times have to align/conform ourselves to norms, customs, and flat out requirements of ourselves in order to get those things that we desire. You don't want those things? Then you don't have to play the game. No questions, no comments, no attitudes...period.

I personally think they should be allowed to kneel, do somersaults, moon the audience, etc. It shows what they are and what people are sponsoring/who they are making millionaires. Then they should be fired if the NFL decides it goes against their interests. It's the fact that they even have an audience at all at this point that is baffling. I still don't know why they are doing it. Just to be drama queen attention seekers I guess.

On the other hand- they are part of a business, and the business should decide what their employees do while working.

These guys make more in 15 minutes than most Americans who pay their salaries make all year. Why would anyone watch these overpaid anti American trash anymore?

The kneeling players are at the workplace. They're not employers, they're employees.

If Jones was being censored for going into restaurants and yelling "fuck you Obama!" and resented being told by restaurant staffers he had to leave, then he would be closer to the behavior of NFL players.

I was a life long Cowboys fan. I was pretty much done with the NFL, but when the Cowboys locked arms walked to the middle of the field and knelt is unison... Icing on the cake.

Yesterday at work, a coworker asked me if I was going to watch the game tonight. "What game?"

Dumbshit liberal Roger Goodell (who formerly worked for the Clintons) and his NFL meekly said several weeks sago that the league would no longer allow kneeling players. But even that day-late-dollar-short response was walked back.

Last I heard, the league and players union were going to hash out the matter.

But this is America, you do have freedom of speech, but however you choose to exercise that right will still have consequences.

The reason this is different from the public sphere of social media is the barrier to entry. NFL players acquire an extremely difficult to obtain platform that represents a whole city or region, while a pundit on fb or yt or twit only represents himself, and maybe his followers.

Millions of people don't depend on the NFL to share their opinion. They watch it to escape the doldrums of life. And when they feel the politics seeping into an outlet of escapism, it rankles them. Free speech begets free speech.

Private businesses that cater to a subset of the population can be expected to police their user base to maintain a culture that matches their founding principles. That's acceptable, and laudable in a free society. Let there be a black club, a white club, an atheist club, or a religious club, or a labor club, or a business club. And let there be non-violent opposition clubs for all of these groups. As long as the "club" is social and composed of individuals - no private organization should pretend to or actually enjoy the powers of Public governance, outside of what the rights to free speech and assembly allow them to lobby for. But their targets should always be the voters and not the men and women voted into office. Corruption of an official sworn to defend the Constitution, and a government designed to be of the People, for the People, should be a high crime. When "clubs" consist of Public officials and billionaires working in secret to manipulate the lawful government, the People suffer.

Private institutions that become ubiquitous to the degree that their use becomes a borderline necessity to be a normal part of the greater American society should be held to higher, American standards.

So if a player in the NFL wants to take a knee? That's fine with me. I defend everyone's right to protest. But I hate the choice made to subvert the emblem of the land that gives them the freedom to do so. And I will never watch an NFL game again because of it.
