Actually, power walking is FAR more rewarding cardio than running. Running is actually more efficient and more (easy mode) than pushing yourself to walk fast. If you want serious cardio gains and fat loss walking fast is the way to go and it's easier on your joints. |

Be carefull. My running obsession finally brought about my worst fear.. some heart issue kicked in and I went from my absolute addiction to run .. to someone now who has to monitor my heart rate going up stairs and can only do a mild excercise bike because of elevated resting heart rate due to SVT and related ablation surgury Born in the USA. Reagan all the way. |

Your biggest hurtle will likely be your lung function, with good lung function you shouldn't even feel much strain on your muscles with short term running if they get enough oxygen as running focuses more on endurance or long term muscles. something I do for surfing to increase lung function is I hold my breath and do something semi-active, like walking. Being careful not to pass out, it can happen. Other then that just ease into, run a little, then walk a little, then run, etc. Another big hurtle you may face is impact on your knees or spine, a good pair of running shoes will help a lot or you can run on less impactful surfaces like dirt roads or sandy beaches, etc. |

I'd recommend hiking in nature as well. Careful not to get a stress fracture, running can be dangerous. I would build your muscles up for at least a month before starting any serious stuff. If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it. |
