This whole thing is beyond ridiculous with coal ash, a gas elec plant and a nuclear plant doing God knows what...

The Saturday morning runs of our top three models for predicting tropical cyclone genesis—the European, GFS, and UKMET models—all predicted development by Tuesday of a non-tropical surface low pressure system that closed off on Saturday in the Central Atlantic, about 900 miles west-southwest of the Azores Islands. This low is being invigorated by a portion of Florence’s remnants. SSTs are unusually warm in this region, about 25 - 26°C (77 -79°F), which is more than 1°C above average. The low will get cut off from the jet stream and meander in an area of weak steering currents for many days. In their 8 am EDT Saturday Tropical Weather Outlook, NHC gave this system 2-day and 5-day odds of development of 60% and 70%, respectively. The next name on the list of Atlantic storms is Leslie.

I noted this in a comment earlier, but the Georgetown, SC area is bracing for potentially epic flooding. The Pee Dee and Waccamaw rivers will be emptying in to Winyah Bay this coming week. This area is particularly interesting because it is not a "straight" dump in to the Atlantic. Top this off with water coming in on top of tide cycles, and I'm not sure anyone knows exactly how it plays out for the Georgetown/Winyah Bay area. Keep an eye on the gauges in this area over the next several days. You can zoom in on this area here and see the gauges.

Flood waters continue to rise in in the Myrtle Beach area. The SCDOT is planning to close down two lanes of US 17 over the Waccamaw / Pee Dee River in Georgetown, SC to basically build a temporary levee to try keep the bridge open as long as possible. However, most of the surrounding area is likely to be heavily inundated, so it's almost a certainty that US 17 will be closed at Georgetown.

In Conway, flooding has almost reached the Horry County Courthouse building. Water has been slowly entering downtown Conway. US 501 and the Main Street Bridge over the Waccamaw River are still dry. The SCDOT / National Guard had been working on temporary levees to keep US 501 from flooding, which coupled with all of the other bridges in the area being underwater, has lead to massive traffic jams. Like, 4 to 5 hour long traffic jams. ALL bridges north of Conway are closed. So, as of today, there are only three bridges leading in and out of the Myrtle Beach area (Main Street, US 501, and US 17). And roads in North Carolina are still in such a state that a suitable route into Myrtle Beach is not really possible.

Meanwhile, there are growing concerns about shortages at the gas stations and grocery stores. Some stores still haven't been able to fully restock. A grocery store I went into a few days ago was still low on milk and bread. Even today, gas stations are low or even out of cigarettes (although that's not necessarily a bad thing, lol).

GFS is showing an incredible size for the storm which is due to develop from the remnants of Florence.

A slight update:

Still not able to get in/near the house. But they will let you in the area if you’re supervised and have a home there. We now know that the car fared miraculously better than we thought, as the driver’s side window being smashed was the only damage apart from mud-stains whipped against it from the wind. No scratches. No dents. Apparently taking the vehicle into our parking instead of the usual parking it in the street out front was a wicked choice. I just decided to do that because I knew I wouldn’t be using it the next day. Every car parked out front instead of where ours was, was either damaged or destroyed.

The houses are boarded up however, construction crews and police are working round the clock. I know the shed is gone, the upstairs windows are gone but the bay window and front door survived. None of the several trees out front of all the houses did, they’re either on cars or yards and/or the street.

Since we’re in old townhouses, we fared way better than the small apartment buildings that were gutted in most cases and had walls removed and rooftops stripped.

Might not be able to go back in or have power until October. I’m not sure. Keeping track of every update I can.

TT is just a website that hosts many of the latest weather model outputs. The GFS model, along with a couple others, are considered the most reliable of the models I think.

relatively speaking, it's very close to the same position... there are already some suggesting storm Leslie could eventually end up being the longest lived Atlantic tropical cyclone on record.
