Just got a report from a friend of a friend in Wilmington. They are fine, but their house is not. The neighbor's giant oak tree uprooted and crashed through their roof and game room last night. Thankfully no one was hurt, but now they're taking the backside of the eyewall with a giant hole in the house.

This is exactly what happened after Floyd. After the storm passed, the news crews left and no one cared about the horrible flooding that occurred days later. Wilmington became and island..surround by flood waters from the Neuse, Cape Fear rivers and tributaries.

I worked on a clean up crew (holding the sign..STOP/SLOW and there were many areas we couldn't get to for weeks because of flooding.

Glad I'm in the mountains now. Great reporting on this thread. Thanks to everyone!

My daughter lives in Florida. They were out of town when Maria hit last year. Just to see what caused deaths in their area (east coast,) I looked up every news article I could find. Every single death I found was caused by a tree falling on a car or a house. One other death was a heart attack.

Yes, you nailed it with this. It seems the media is too obsessed with wind. The media's obsession with the wind and shit blowing around, regardless of flooding in turn influences their viewers to also tend to only care about wind. Hence, the silliness that ensues when people heard that Flo was downgraded from 4, then 3 then 2, etc.

The media should focus more on the flooding in general and not just pack up when the winds die down.
