God bless the Cajun Navy. Willing to stick their neck out for people, to put it bluntly, can not take care of themselves because of their stupidity. It's unfortunate that the people who are restricted by mobility such as the elderly and the handicapped get mixed in with that bunch. My heart goes out to all of them.

Of course every soul deserves to be saved but you can't help being frustrated at those who willingly put their lives in danger to be saved by heroes who should be saving lives of the people that really had no other option than to stay.

We got close to 56 inches of rain at my place in Harvey. It is unbelievable how much water that is.

A tree fell on the house and killed the mother and baby. Her husband went to the hospital.

Do NOT forget the inland Nuclear Facilities in South and North Carolina.

The FLOODING ISSUE issue, if there is record rainfall back in the mountainous areas, could be PROBLEMATIC FOR THE DAMS that are both UPSTREAM from those NUCLEAR FACILITIES, and for the LAKES upon which some sit.

I know know I am a bit of a Broken Record on this issue ... but it has been my contention all along that the REAL risk with this particular storm was NOT the Storm Surge or the High Winds when if was coming ashore (even when it was a Cat 4) ... but the projection of RECORD RAINS in the interior of both South and North Carolina and the RISK that those potentially record rains could put on the Nuclear Facilities, of which there are many, inland from the ocean (I never thought the nuclear facilities on the ocean would be a problem no matter how bad the storm ... those two facilities were well designed and prepared for a major hurricane)

My previous posts on this issue are on page 52 and on page 173 of this thread, so I will not repost the data here that I put into those posts.

IF this issue is to arise it is still a solid 3 days out from today ... and of course it would only occur if record rains in the interior of South and North Carolina occur
(we will see if they occur over the next 48 to 72 hours - if not, NO worries :-) )

That is extreme and yet I am often prone to over action.

No, not even a wage garnishment.

Rather perhaps, assign a suitable fine and withhold from their tax returns a maximum of $2,000 USD per year until the fine has been repaid.

This would "send a message", recoup rescue costs, and discourage future stupidity.

NOAA Doppler weather radar data and surface observations indicate
that the center of Hurricane Florence has continued to move slowly
westward toward the North Carolina-South Carolina border.

Amateur radio operators have reported a recent wind gust of 76 mph
(122 km/h) in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. A buoy operated by
the CORMP program east of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina recently
reported a wind gust of 69 mph (111 km/h). Surface observations
indicate that the central pressure has risen to near 971 mb (28.67
inches).

The radar presentation of Florence has weakened as the center has
moved inland, so this will be the last hourly tropical cyclone
position update issued on Florence. Public advisories will be
issued every three hours until the system weakens below tropical
storm strength.
