My neighbor and I lost over twenty trees to being uprooted a few years ago when a hurricane 'got' Richmond.

I think we cut up twelve and gave up, the rest are still on the ground.

Holy crap it looks like the eye is trying to reform over land!

How do you get electrocuted (to death) plugging something in. let go of the damn plug.

Once the TAP of the Gulf Stream waters closes off.. It will cut off the fresh energy that is still being drawn into the Center..

Mine has 40 unforgiving Amps at 220 VAC.

I always connect it first, then start it, then go inside and close the circuit breaker pair to energize my home.

I ran the house on mine for five hours today. The damn thing even ran the stove top, septic system pump (I live in a swamp), and electric dryer at the same time!

We stayed in a shelter because I did not want to be a tree casualty.

I am still heartbroken over the mother and infant.

They were supposed to have been evacuated by 3 PM, and then first responders are going through neighborhoods to find stragglers. Good Lord, I hope those folks are okay!

Also people should always help their elderly neighbors with these things.

A few years ago I heard my neighbor's generator shut down at about 2:00 AM.

I went outside with a gun to check on it in case it was being stolen.

Minutes later my 80+ years old neighbor came out and yelled "I have a shotgun, you want to live you better leave it alone!!"

I laughed and told him it was me and said '...it had run out of gas, go on back inside, I'll fill it and restart it for you.'

Always help your neighbors who may not be as adept at this as you!!

westward through the night, maintaining a broad cyclonic swirl of
wind around its circulation center. Two particularly heavy rain
bands have set up across southeastern North Carolina today, and the
bulk of high-res model guidance shows they will hardly budge through
the next 12 hours. Some of the rainfall totals these models are
cranking out through 12Z Sunday morning are truly staggering.

GFS: 9 inches NAM: 18 inches WRF-ARW: 28 inches WRF-NMM: 29 inches
RAP: 16 inches HRRR: 27 inches

Conferring with the NWS`s Weather Prediction Center meteorologists
and our neighboring offices, we`re predicting maximum values from
now through 12Z (8 AM) Sunday morning to exceed an additional foot
up to 18 inches of rain within a zone from Southport and Wilmington
northwestward across Elizabethtown and into Robeson county. Flash
flooding is already occurring across this region and this additional
torrential rainfall will only cause an expansion of the area and
severity of flash flooding. Even beyond just raw rainfall totals, it
appears this event may rival the flooding we experienced during
Hurricanes Floyd and Matthew in terms of human and infrastructure
impacts.
