I don't mean to be crass but I would have thought there would be more blood, I didn't see any.

I have a bunch of cats, and my big yellow male is a bully.
It seems he is being super dominant. He's the one that also keeps strange cats away.

My point is that the male has a job, and when he gets too old to do it, he needs to go.

True story. I have an outdoors cat colony, and can see how the society has to work. The huge male fights intruding cats.

That’s the problem with holding wild animals captive like in this safari park. When an old male lion “needs to go”, there’s no place for him to go; lions’ territories in the wild are vast. Thus, the female lions had no other option to oust him but to try to kill him. In the wild, he simply would’ve been chased off. More likely, in the wild a younger, stronger, male lion would force him to leave. Yet another reason why for-profit wild animal “entertainment” is wrong and unethical.

I think you're right. In nature, another male would replace him and send the old guy wandering.

He'd die alone from hunger and old age eventually anyway. Maybe this is the lionesses way of making it a quick death with less suffering. Nature is weird that way.
