Nah. I work at a chemical plant (refinery in SE USA) and my job is to keep an eye on the process so that the plant doesn't explode. At least that's the idea. There are so many automated interlocks and safeguards that I am not really needed. I am here because laws and regulations require human presence.

I had a job like that... Was pretty kick ass.

There. Just had a nice little nap. The plant didn't explode and everything's in the green, except that one bypass valve which has been offline since June.

Yeah. Nice and quiet. Nobody's around and telling you to do something. Of course, if the plant suddenly goes crazy or we get intruders (believe or not, but we have been given a class on what to do in case of a terrorist attack ) it's another matter.

I worked convenience stores. Many afraid to work in high risk areas or want to work alone at night. It’s great if working for a bitchy boss. Had one that walked in the door that way every morning. Got old.

I seem to get more work done through the night, it's quieter and less busy...

Engineering degree and experience (well, one reference from my student days) in the chemical process technology, the balls to embellish your resume and ability to shamelessly sell yourself in the interview. That, and willingness to work the night shift (no family), too.

I trust in the automation more than myself. Yeah, I know myself so well that I wouldn't let myself work at a nuke plant.

Ah. At work again. Watching the monitors, reading GLP and nothing else to do.

You fap?!! WTH...yea they are good cause ...well you got peace and you can blaze while watching the shooting stars. In the winter it kinda sucks, too cold to stand outside staring at the sky.

I did some night shifts and the free time and slacking benefits were great. But there is something greasy and nasty about waking up at 4 in the afternoon and seeing the sun come through the blinders and all the pretty girls playing vollyball and shit, and you are just getting up like some night goblin. Then you come home at 8 AM and eat a hearty meal of bourbon and microwaved steak-ums before nailing a quilt across the bright window so its all dark like some vampire crack-den or some shit, being the only way to get some sleep. All your friends are heading to work so there is nothing to do but drink alone until you pass out on your piss-stained matress at 10 AM or so. It's kind of nasty and depressing.

Did you know that the Finnish language has a word for 'drinking alone at home while wearing nothing but your underwear'?
