Not sure what the point of this topic is. Mattis doesn't like giving interviews. Ok. Now we're going to argue whether he is or is not a badass? I don't find him scary at all, personally.

He'd have no qualms telling someone to do it.

If he’d gone to Vietnam he would not be the executive he is now. He was plucked out and saved from Vietnam, for some other reason beyond me.

I think Mattis is alright, helluva general and made some pretty good statements.

You are a Grade A Idiot. I personally many vets who served during Vietnam war but never stepped foot in Vietnam. You know the military has and had many deployments all over the world. Not everyone went through Vietnam.

Also Mattis is a genius. Geniuses don't do 4-year-college or go through traditional path. The traditional path is for regular people. In all fields of life, business, military, etc..., they are always plucking out geniuses for fast track and leap frogging over others. There are people getting plucked straight out of high school for special forces training too.

No ass-hat, I’m not kidding, and you clearly have NO military combat experience or you would understand the crucial importance of having a man with REAL LEADERSHIP ABILITY directing an operation.

Many of our military have been killed as a direct result of an inept and ineffective commander. You have no idea how the morale and effectiveness of a military unit is directly affected by its LEADERSHIP.

The Marines understand that more than any other branch, and they respect Mattis for his ability to effectively lead and motivate men into combat.

I’ve personally served under weak and ineffective men, and I’ve personally seen how dangerous it is for their subordinates.

I’ve personally taken an Article 15 for disobeying a direct order because I knew it was the WRONG order.

You NO-military-experience asswipes are denigrating a great military leader because he doesn’t have “confirmed kills”??

Ask any combat Marine who has served under Mad Dog Mattis if he would agree with you that Mattis is “just an armchair general”.

You’ve never served in the military to understand the critical importance of having a NON-political, authoritative man with BALLS in command.

“Confirmed kills” or not, the man knows how to LEAD men into combat and complete a successful operation.

Whereas, a man with “confirmed kills” under his belt but who is a weak and ineffective leader would only cause his own men to get killed.

Until YOU have personally served in the military and experienced a weak leader that will get you killed versus an effective leader that will bring you back home alive, YOU have nothing to say about Mattis.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get to the gym while you sit your 300-pound ass in your mom’s basement, stuffing HoHo’s down your gullet and playing video games.

One thing about Mattis that stands out for me, besides the fact that he somehow skipped out on Vietnam combat, besides the fact that he has no confirmed kills, besides the fact that he's less physically imposing than Roseanne Barr, is that he doesn't even seem to be very articulate. I've always been impressed with high IQ generals wbo are so good at articulating their thoughts and can effectively communicate up and down the chain. Mattis seems kind of sullen and taciturn and inarticulate.

I knew a SEAL, did his time got out, seemed like the most regular joe you'd ever meet.

I asked him "Ya know, you're out here drinking & smoking with the rest of us & I woulda never guessed you were ever in."

He told me "The military changes normal men, I never changed."

I can see why ya like Mattis, hell what red blooded American wouldn't.

I'm just saying he's never killed anyone and he commands from a recliner.

It's his job to learn how to kill and learn to do it better than anyone if need be.

He does NOT have to be poised, articulate, sophisticated, battle-scarred and paraplegic to be an effective military commander.

Instead of forming your “personal opinion” on whether or not he can complete successful missions and bring men back alive, why don’t you ASK any Marine or Soldier who actually serves in combat theater under a leader who is articulate, poised, well-mannered, and sips wine at cocktail parties with politicians?

If this is really the best you two can come up with for optimal people to be in positions of high political power then you two are in great need of a reality check.

If Mattis really said this stuff then he needs to be investigated by Congress immediately. Such people need to be taken out of political power permanently. Such people are the very reason why America is in the dire straits it is in and has been for a long time now.
