I dislike Portland Oregon. My daughter, and my Uncle live there - so I visit - but I have no desire to live there. I "should" fit in, as I like bookstores, cafes, and "look" like I belong there, but nope. Not 4 me. I sense a tremendous amount of discord in Portland, (and mental health problems there).

My daughter loves it though. She is not a liberal, actually pretty conservative. Many GenZ are (very early 20') - Right to Center. (Many many white millinials have migrated to Portland). The reason is "jobs," and they like nature, and the creativity "art" and "music" scene. (There are also good colleges in Oregon). Portlamd offers much more for them, than we have here. Our local UC system is 85 percent Asian, and whites like my daughter (even with 4.0 GPA and high SAT scores, cannot compete)

It is the Older Millinials, and Genx seeking alternative lifestyles, and exploring different lifestyles (I try not to judge). Transgenderism costs a lot of money - in medical management, so it really is for those wealthy, or extremely liberal health care policies- maybe MediCaid covers it now? Not sure!

Truth is - many youth in California are priced out of living here (in San Francisco Bay Area (they closed all the dinners and bookstores in our hometown)). All we have is an "Apple" stores, and high end retail. My daughter found it very boring and sterile. She likes music and theatre, and we do not have much of that here (in our immediate area)

My community is now predominatly Asian, Middle Eastern, East Indian, and Hispanic (in that order). We have far more white males, than white females. We have lots and lots of white males married, or in a relationship with Asian women.

Portland is lucky to get so many smart and talented millinials! It will change the state, and maybe help clean out some intercity problems (that plague all metropolitan areas throughout USA)
