I'm simply talking about the way they might assign the pedophile priest to say a thousand rosaries for the sin or to move him to a cloyster for contemplation and a silent life, versus being handed over to authorities to be placed in a concrete and steel jail.

The church simply doesn't view itself under the regular official jurisdiction of criminal law.

But then the jewish and muslims have also managed to handle their legal affairs outside of the criminal system. They both have private legal systems they use to keep things quiet.

I am sure both of those groups have horrible things going on that are covered up and handled privately.
