It uses the same ELP2000 algorithm to calculate the moon's position that I've used for years with my spreadsheet based calculations. It works and accurately predicts the moon's position. You can find the algorithm in printed form in libraries for decades now.

Dr. Astro,

Thanks for the video. Retrograde motion makes sense now. I must admit to previously falling for the hysteria of youtube idiots. Thank you for always helping us find the truth.

Double Eclipse and, NOBODY knew?

The moon...different directions?
 Quoting: Chilenita

It's the APPARENT different directions; but no, the moon is traveling in a (mostly) round orbit yet appears to be going left and then later back to the right. [Or vice versa, not sure which it would be.]

But anyway, the moon is acting normal. We just see a visual phenomenon based on our viewpoint of the occurrence.

Hi Grumpier.
Do you know why the Sunspot solar observatory in Nevada was shut down and why the local area was evacuated ?
 Quoting: Jean-Francois

A whole bunch of observatories was shut down.

The videos showing a double eclipse were made out of old material. The side show to distract.

What those astronomers really saw was the following.
First they saw a smaller spherical ship of us, about the 2/3 of the size of the moon. That one came to the Sun to do some tuning of the corona. While there it "grew" a bunch of large thin legs in a minute and started influencing the corona. The diameter of the ship and the stretched legs was 12 % of the Sun's circumference. The influence on the corona was first only within that diameter, shortly thereafter spreading in circular bands, like waves, and later covering the entire sun.

Though there was another event at the same time, they have not noticed that. That ship was substantially smaller, extraterrestrial and wanted to capture Helium for their ride home. Since that interfered with what we were doing we transported them home.

BTW, I did not know before of these events, I had to ask and it was shown to me.

You're literally reduced to claiming conspiracy math at this point, and it's hilarious. I programmed this myself, NASA had nothing to do with it. This is no mystery, it's just the moon. The source code I wrote is less than 100 lines, it's fairly elegant and simple.

Thanks for all the work you do. The first time I saw it , I thought the most plausible explanation was the satellite was viewing the moon from a different perspective in its orbit at at different time on both occasions. I haven’t read all your explanations as I’m not a math or astronomy wiz. Just seems like more of a common sense type of answer would be the way to go.

Re: Double Eclipse on SDO
This double eclipse has been doing the rounds and raising a lot of questions. An object crosses the sun in one direction and then a short while later another object crosses the sun in the opposite direction. Some believe that this is what is being covered up by the Sunspot Observatory closure, but I can guarantee it has nothing to do with it.

It's actually the moon both times, as seen from SDO's unique perspective. I've now written a program to automatically read the time stamps on SDO videos and annotate them with the expected position of the sun and moon from SDO's position in orbit. The moon crosses the sun twice in opposite directions due to fortuitous timing of retrograde motion with the timing of the eclipse.

[link to youtu.be (secure)]

Here's the source code for my program. It automatically reads the time stamps on the 1024x1024 videos from SDO and outputs a new video with overlaid labels. You also need to specify a TLE file containing SDO's orbital elements (you can have other orbits in the file but SDO needs to be the first one).
[link to github.com (secure)]

Dependencies include OpenCV, Numpy, and Google Tesseract with PyTesseract for character recognition.

Thanks for the explanation, I posted a different video of the same event on the Sunspot NM thread and I did know how there could be two eclipse.

Because you say so? Sorry bud, that's not how it works. You let me know when you have calculations that can predict this phenomenon with the exact size and position of the eclipsing object at better accuracy than I have done here. Until then, yes I'm far closer to the truth than you are.

He's right guys,, it's just the moon... It lines up perfectly if you rewind, and look at the time stamps..

Mr Bbb has a video on it as well... He actually shows it, and the position of the moon in orbit..

I'm only wondering why no one has noticed this before? Or maybe they have...

I'm also wondering what this closing of sunspot is truly about... If their goal was to hide something, it's not working.. This is only bringing more attention to the sun, the sky, and the observatory...

It happened in 2011 as well. It happened at exactly the speed it was supposed to happen. SDO's orbit factors into it, it's not a stationary observer.

Dr Astromut,
thanks for your post,
we both know another eclipse is supposed to be 14days after the first one (as always ???!) but the next I'm awaiting it's another solar eclipse not lunar. I've probably made a mistake in calculations and I can't explain all the middle date of the eclipse was the 17th of september 2018 for a reason, for me.

have you study nodical cycle? I can explain a little more if you want.

you should remember sun is life itself like a powerful one is missing after the 12th march 2012 count well 6y6m6d not here for the biblical meaning...
it wasn't ufo it was like conception day 6y6m6d in advance for the moon is passing near the sun to act that is so funny at all, and I'm not joking at all life has to be life...

that's why my calculations can be false but i can always see something for the 17th of september "lyris" will rise up again.

if you want you can suppress my post, just here to help us mutually...

thanks!

Not in this case. That rule of thumb only applies if the moon eclipses the sun as seen from earth. SDO isn't on earth; the moon's shadow completely missed the earth's surface and it's earth that does the eclipsing of the moon during a lunar eclipse.
