I have a perfectly honest and legit question...

If "Adam" means "Man", then how come my neighbour is called Adam and he's the gayest, campest motherfucker i've ever seen. He's also a nurse, which is an extremely gay job.

There's absolutely nothing manly about him whatsoever. He even has "Gay Pride" tattood across the top of his back, presumably to confirm to his man friends that he's a lover of the sausage before they mount him from behind...
