I think some of these gender issues are a form of narcessistic tendencies. So many of them suffer from mental health problems, and transgendered have a very high suicidal risk. We should make sure to have adequate mental health coverage and services (in this country!). I am glad these stories are starting to (finally) surface.

To me, it is like this.

I saw the boots. They were 400$. I was bored and boring. Those boots would make me more interesting. Even I would think of myself as more interesting. The boots would take me there. Every day I looked at the boots online and dreamed about the day I'd own those BOOTS.

Finally managed to afford the boots.

Realized they didn't change me at all. Like within one week the boot obsession died a quiet death.

All sorts of things can distract you from self acceptance and self work. All sorts of things can become obsessions.

After a while you realize that self acceptance and self love is about not looking outside yourself for things, changes or whatever.

My bottom line on this is: Dress how you want. Date who you want. Do not get surgery or take drugs. Accept the beautiful person you are. Live life. Be aware of obsessions as they arise, and think about who you would be without those thoughts. Think of reasons to drop those thoughts.
