My youngest granddaughter is already 3 feet tall, and she's not even two yet :(
 Quoting: NutShell

Are her parents tall?

I could get my feet into my 5 y/o niece's shoes. They were tight on my feet, but not that tight.

She was 5'10" at 12. It is genetic though. Height is generally a function of proper diet, as seen in a single generation of migrant parents, and their offspring.

I believe Denmark has the tallest people
 Quoting: Seer777

There is lots of Dairy and cheese production in Denmark...makes sense in the context of BGH....
 Quoting: ChivalryKnight

I doubt Denmark uses much, BGH. In my niece and nephew's case, BGH has nothing to do with it. It's genetic. Not sure they've ever eaten at McDonalds.

Point is, genetics and access to a great diet, can increase height in a single generation, where the parent generation lacked essential nutrients as children.
 Quoting: Seer777

Absolutely. People who live through wars and famine and deprivation do not unlock their genetic potential inherent in the DNA but the code is still there to bless future generations that may have more provision and nutrients.

Interesting...

I cannot eat wheat, and now dairy is a problem... never have weight issues, can eat whatever I want apart from that. I love to eat. Always been attracted to healthy food, tho.

they might have had dessert on sundays.

I got what you are saying but it didn't just start recently. Look at 50s tv. Otis, the Mayor, Aunt Bee and countless other fatties on Andy Griffith. Fatties on I Love Lucy. Dig out some old tv shows and you will see obese people were plentiful back then. We just didn't know any except locals and ones we saw on tv. Now the internet and countless tv shows we can see even more. When did gmo really start? If it was just recent why were there so many obese back then?

As much as 40% of store receipts may be coated in BPA as well, according to the Environmental Working Group. The chemical can rub off on hands or food items, and may be absorbed through the skin.
You can also limit your exposure to BPA through store receipts:

Say no to paper receipts when possible.
Keep receipts in an envelope.
Never give a child a receipt to hold or play with.
Wash your hands before preparing and eating food after handling a receipt.
Don’t recycle receipts and other thermal paper. BPA residues contaminate recycled paper.

The government of Denmark has released a 326-page report affirming that endocrine disrupting chemicals are probably continuing to the birth of fewer males and the "feminization" of existing ones.

The report centers on chemicals like PVC, flame retardants, phthalates, dioxins, PCBs and bisphenol-A, all of which mimic the action of estrogen in the body. The researchers concluded that due to the prevalence of these chemicals, children could easily be exposed to high enough levels to place them at "critical risk" of harm.

Gender-bender chemicals causing early puberty in girls

"Endocrine disrupting" chemicals that mimic or interfere with the body's natural sex hormones are partially responsible for early puberty in girls, according to a study conducted by researchers from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

"Research has shown that early pubertal development in girls can have adverse social and medical effects, including cancer and diabetes later in life," researcher Mary Wolff said. "Our research shows a connection between chemicals that girls are exposed to on a daily basis and either delayed or early development."

Aye. The PVC pipes. I remember in middle school how the drinking water flavor changed when they changed to plastic PVC piping. I could see the plastic piping behind the fountain, which I recall looking at when I noticed the flavor.

I could taste it in my mom's water bottle in the 80's.

To this day I refuse to use water bottles. They made baby bottles out of the stuff for 10 years. Scary stuff.

I'm at a computer more than I like too.

I still burn fire wood in the winter and hike ever deeper in the woods to get cured and dry firewood or cut and load it into trailers, split it and bring it into the house....

Still I think it helps me lose weight and we love our wood heat... think it also keeps us from getting sick as much having a warm dry house in spite of cool damp outside.

Earth grounding (going barefoot) as much as possible working outside has also helped me reduce inflammation and I believe would be a key to weightloss for many people.

We evolved foraging for our food. We added hunting and the Old Testement is pretty much the story of our shift from foraging and hunting to farming and gardening--and marriage which is needing permission from tribal leadership to do reproductive activity. We didn't need marriage when we were foraging and hunting.

So basically marriage makes women fat.

Isn't it generally accepted that one of the causes of the 'Downfall of Rome' was lead piping?

I've wondered if a similar decline was planned and implemented in similar fashion, but this time utilizing plastic.

Prior ignorance aside.

Lead piping was thought to have made Emperor Nero go mad...leached out quite badly.

I recall watching a documentary that mentioned that all the aristocracy had lead pipes leading to their homes.

I believe I also heard it was used to flavor wine.

Lead is sweet, that's why kids ate the paint chips.

Yes! Thank you. :)

From link:

Like other lead(II) salts, lead(II) acetate has a sweet taste, which led to its historical use as a sugar substitute. The ancient Romans, who had few sweeteners besides honey, would boil must (grape juice) in lead pots to produce a reduced sugar syrup called defrutum, concentrated again into sapa.

This syrup was used to sweeten wine and to sweeten and preserve fruit. It is possible that lead(II) acetate or other lead compounds leaching into the syrup might have caused lead poisoning in those who consumed it.

I read the book wheat belly and the testimonials of a doctor taking people off wheat were incredible.

Seriously...I look at pictures in my Time Life old west book series... NO FAT PEOPLE HARDLY ANYWHERE 120+ YEARS AGO...NADA, NONE!

I was just at a large county fair today and the wife and I had to comment on the amount of morbidly obese people there. We've been hitting the same fair for over 30 years and the explosion of fat is exponential, and within the last few years the scooter rentals have been booming.

This definitely has to be connected with high fructose corn syrup and all the other garbage that is processed foods today.
