UPDATE: Chinese nuclear plant in the path Shenzhen, a few miles away from any coastline so i cant see any waves/tidal surge Is that near Guangzhou? Yeah, its between HK and Guangzhou. Its right on the border of HK actually Stay safe! What is your sense from there? Does it look like it will be bad or has it diminished enough to not be too concerning? Reports from here have it looking like it will cause damage. I really hope not! afriendindeed |

Luckily the eye will be over the ocean when it hits this area, but I dont think there will be anything too major. Probably just downed trees and construction scaffolding, as well as flooding in low lying areas (seems the drainage systems here cant handle too much rain very well) |

He says wind and rain have started. He doesn’t have a whole lot of information as an English speaking visitor staying in a hotel. I’m sending him updates I get from here. I’d like like to see where the eye is expected to pass. afriendindeed |

I hope that doesn’t put more rural areas in danger. Do you know what it is classified as now? Categories 3,2, or 1 - although I think classification is different there. afriendindeed |

Looks like it’s mostly me and you communicating here so far. I hope you are safe and prepared. The news here is all about Hurricane Florence so I’m grateful for this thread and updates. Just talked to my husband. He has moved to a more secure building - where he is working there - and now has people to be with. I feel better knowing he is not alone in a hotel room. He walked 10 minutes - the rain had stopped but he said the sky is getting darker and it feels like it will hit soon. afriendindeed |

Workers at the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station in Guangdong province, which has five generating units, each with 1,086 megawatts of capacity, and a sixth under construction, are preparing for the approaching storm.
