I take care of children, my only goal is to teach. All my children when they leave my Montessori Home school are reading, can add subtract, multiplication, fractions. They always test at a 2nd grade level. The sad part is that they go to public dumb down system and loose what they learned very quickly. Additionally... WHen my son was in second grade, he came home with a red handprint on his tiny arm that his teacher gave to him. I got on Amazon that night, and ordered what I would need to homeschool him for the rest of the year (it was in mid-December this happened.) I was able to homeschool him in TWO hours a day, and he returned to school at nearly the fourth grade level. What does that say!? As with LJS's children, my son is a really good kid. He is in HS and is not a partier, as I was. Ugh. This stuff makes my heart ache.
