Jihadist rebel group attempts to infiltrate Syrian Army lines from Idlib buffer zone

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:00 A.M.) – The jihadist rebels attempted to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) in the northwestern countryside of the Hama Governorate, yesterday, a military source told Al-Masdar News.

Led by the Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP), the jihadist rebels attempted to infiltrate through the farms around Al-Mansoura and Tal Wassit before they were spotted by the Syrian Arab Army’s scouts in the Al-Ghaab Plain.

According to the source, the Syrian Arab Army was able to foil the infiltration attempt before any of the jihadist rebels could reach their intended target zone in the northwestern countryside of the Hama Governorate.

The source added that the Syrian Arab Army was able to kill a few of the infiltrators before they retreated to the northern part of the Al-Ghaab Plain.

The jihadist rebels in the northwestern countryside of the Idlib Governorate have been using the agreed upon buffer zone to attack the Syrian Arab Army, despite repeated warnings from the Russian and Turkish forces.

Russia has donated to Syria three battalion sets of S-300PM missile systems of eight launchers each, a military diplomatic source told TASS on Monday.

"On October 1, three battalion sets of S-300PM systems of eight launchers each were delivered to Syria," the source said.

"These systems were previously deployed at one of the Russian aerospace forces’ regiments which now uses the S-400 Triumf systems. The S-300 systems underwent capital repairs at Russian defense enterprises, are in good condition and are capable of performing combat tasks," the source said, adding that the S-300PM systems were handed over to the Syrian side free of charge.
