It wasn't reported that he was fired.

It was reported that he verbally made known his intention to resign and he did that to the Chief of Staff.

Trump is the person who has to accept the resignation.

Wouldn't it make more sense to keep Rosenstein on staff at DOJ and under a gag order awaiting his trial? Power removed.

Rosenstein is already implicated in several illegal acts including signing a bad FISA warrant, illegally appointing a Special Council and allowing that SC an open ended investigation where NO CRIME was committed by the President, etc.

Rosenstein is facing Grand Jury indictment (if he hasn't been indicted already).

So, he gets to go to a planned meeting at the WH, because it's a weekly thing. That doesn't mean he's sitting very comfortably in his seat.
