One other thing...would President Trump nominate such a white candidate and NOT expect this shit-show? It's not what I saw when he took down the whole political establishment and took the Presidency two years ago.

He could have nominated the more conservative woman (Barrett?) who would be a shoe-in.

No...President Trump at least foresaw this and went ahead or at a minimum, KNEW about the allegations long before yesterday. He controls intelligence, or at least has access to it.

He appears to be a good man. I'm around his age and I remember the times during those years. It was wild. I feel he was a good kid though. I think his parents keep a short leash. I thought possibly that Mark Judge might be the one who jumped on Blasey Ford since she seemed so credible. By credible I mean she did try to contact someone before she was in contact with Feinstein. I do know that things can be faked. My biggest question they didn't ask, I have 2 actually. Why did she leave her friend when she ran out. If I had a good friend, I would have dragged her ass out with me.
And why didn't Feinstein mention anything when she knew and it could have been discussed privately. He went for an interview after she helped Blasey Ford get a lawyer. They definitely used this woman as a pawn to delay. The others are most definitely made up.

The narrower question, starkly presented by the Garland nomination, is what to make of things when the Senate simply fails to perform its constitutional duty.

It is altogether proper to view a decision by the Senate not to act as a waiver of its right to provide advice and consent. A waiver is an intentional relinquishment or abandonment of a known right or privilege.

In practical terms, how would this "appointment" work?

The president has nominated Garland and submitted his nomination to the Senate. The president should advise the Senate that he will deem its failure to act by a specified reasonable date in the future to constitute a deliberate waiver of its right to give advice and consent. What date? The historical average between nomination and confirmation is 25 days; the longest wait has been 125 days. That suggests that 90 days is a perfectly reasonable amount of time for the Senate to consider Garland’s nomination. If the Senate fails to act by the assigned date, Obama could conclude that it has waived its right to participate in the process, and he could exercise his appointment power by naming Garland to the Supreme Court.
