Quoting: M4Antisocial personality disorder (abbreviated APD or ASPD) is a psychiatric diagnosis in the DSM-IV-TR recognizable by the disordered individual's disregard for social rules and norms, impulsive behavior, and indifference to the rights and feelings of others. The World Health Organization's ICD-10 diagnostic manual uses dissocial personality disorder instead. The concept psychopathy (not to be confused with psychosis) generally denotes a related but more severe personality disorder. Quoting: WikipidiaSociopathy is sometimes claimed to be a less formal synonym for this disorder based on terminology from an older edition of the DSM. Various experts have co-opted the terms psychopathy and sociopathy inconsistently to mark differences in meaning they believe are theoretically important although there is a consensus that both terms refer to personality disorders with prominent norm-breaking and socially disruptive behavior. Think I will check if the God of wikipidia is male or female. Will be important. Love x |

Goldfish User ID: 631584 ![]() 03/30/2009 07:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Eat facts, motherfuckers: 18 traits of a sociopath: 1. SUPERFICIAL CHARM — the tendency to be smooth, engaging, charming, and slick. Not in the least shy, self-conscious, or afraid to say anything. He never gets tongue-tied and has freed himself from the social conventions about taking turns in talking, for example. 2. GRANDIOSE SELF-WORTH — a grossly inflated view of one's abilities and self-worth, self-assured, opinionated, cocky, a braggart. An arrogant guy who believes he is a superior human being. 3. NEED FOR STIMULATION (PRONENESS TO BOREDOM) — an excessive need for novel, thrilling, and exciting stimulation; taking chances and doing things that are risky. Often has low self-discipline in carrying tasks through to completion because he gets bored easily. 4. PATHOLOGICAL LYING — can be moderate or high; in moderate form, and will be shrewd, crafty, cunning, sly, and clever (in extreme form, he will be deceptive, deceitful, underhanded, unscrupulous, manipulative, and dishonest). 5. CONNING AND MANIPULATIVENESS — the use of deceit and deception to cheat, con, or defraud others for personal gain; distinguished from Item #4 in the degree to which exploitation and callous ruthlessness is present, as reflected in a lack of concern for the feelings and suffering of one's victims. 6. LACK OF REMORSE OR GUILT — a lack of feelings or concern for the losses, pain, and suffering of victims; a tendency to be unconcerned, dispassionate, coldhearted, and unempathic. This item is usually demonstrated by a disdain for one's victims. 7. SHALLOW AFFECT — emotional poverty or a limited range or depth of feelings; interpersonal coldness in spite of signs of open gregariousness. 8. CALLOUSNESS and LACK OF EMPATHY — a lack of feelings toward people in general; cold, contemptuous, inconsiderate, and tactless. 9. PARASITIC LIFESTYLE — an intentional, manipulative, selfish, and exploitative financial dependence on others as reflected in a lack of motivation, low self-discipline, and inability to begin or complete responsibilities. 10. POOR BEHAVIORAL CONTROLS — expressions of irritability, annoyance, impatience, threats, aggression, and verbal abuse; inadequate control of anger and temper; acting hastily. 11. PROMISCUOUS SEXUAL BEHAVIOR — a variety of brief, superficial relations, numerous affairs, and an indiscriminate selection of sexual partners; the maintenance of several relationships at the same time; a history of attempts to sexually coerce others into sexual activity or taking great pride at discussing sexual exploits or conquests. 12. LACK OF REALISTIC, LONG-TERM GOALS — an inability or persistent failure to develop and execute long-term plans and goals; a nomadic existence, aimless, lacking direction in life. 13. IMPULSIVITY — the occurrence of behaviors that are unpremeditated and lack reflection or planning; inability to resist temptation, frustrations, and urges; a lack of deliberation without considering the consequences; foolhardy, rash, unpredictable, erratic, and reckless. 14. IRRESPONSIBILITY — repeated failure to fulfill or honor obligations and commitments; such as not paying bills, defaulting on loans, performing sloppy work, being absent or late to work, failing to honor contractual agreements. 15. FAILURE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR OWN ACTIONS — a failure to accept responsibility for one's actions reflected in low conscientiousness, an absence of dutifulness, antagonistic manipulation, denial of responsibility, and an effort to manipulate others through this denial. 16. MANY SHORT-TERM RELATIONSHIPS — a lack of commitment to a long-term relationship reflected in inconsistent, undependable, and unreliable commitments in life, including marital. 17. JUVENILE DELINQUENCY — behavior problems between the ages of 13-18; mostly behaviors that are crimes or clearly involve aspects of antagonism, exploitation, aggression, manipulation, or a callous, ruthless tough-mindedness. 18. CRIMINAL VERSATILITY — A diversity of types of criminal offenses (regardless if the person has been arrested or convicted for them); taking great pride at getting away with crimes. Sociopaths only care about fulfilling their own needs and desires - selfishness and egocentricity to the extreme. Everything and everybody else is mentally twisted around in their minds as objects to be used in fulfilling their own needs and desires. Not surprisingly, parental failure (usually fatherlessness) is the #1 reason why someone develops a sociopathic personality. Sociopathic traits from the list above also show up where someone has received training in a profession or career that encourages violence, exploitation or ruthlessness such as the armed forces, the police, intelligence services, banking, abattoir workers, nursing, medicine and law. Traits that are successful in some situations or attitudes that grow naturally from factual superiority for example high levels of professional qualifications leading to arrogant attitudes plant the seeds for intolerant or egotistical sociopathic behaviour. This falls far short of the "18/18" classical full blown sociopath. Also interesting are the four distinct types of sociopaths: 1) Commons are characterized by their lack of conscience 2) Alienated are characterized by their inability to love or be loved 3) Aggressives are characterized by a consistent sadistic streak 4) Dyssocials are characterized by an inability to abide by normal rules DOH! |
AsperGirl User ID: 637830 ![]() 03/30/2009 08:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ha! I'm all over this subject. (1) Firstly, people who have Asperger syndrome constantly anger and upset others because they think we are sociopathic or have antisocial personality disorder, when we actually only lack empathy. (2) Secondly, I've had experience with two sadistic sociopaths. One was a university official who used his position to abuse students. He was caught blackmailing teen boys for sex in an off-campus bust and was sent to prison. The other was a sexual Machiavellian woman who fed narcissistically off married men and was psychologically abusive. I'm all over the sociopathic profile. I've been studying sociopathy for years as a hobby. It's a personality disorder and a subset of what I call "abnormal social psychological pathology". Their identity functions are totally different than normal people, even if their personalities seem normal on the surface. If you come up against a sociopath there is little you can do to control there behavior because they are not like regular people. The sadistic aggressive ones are like cats, pure predators, highly compulsive with no insight and no introspection or conscience. Although they can be smart, brlliant and charming on the surface, under the surface where a real person is supposed to be, they are empty, boring and stupid. They project emotions and affect very well, especially the charismatic ones, so they are capable of feeling. It's just that their feelings aren't hooked into any value system that affirms the existence of any other. So even if you give them pleasure, they wouldn't have any kind thoughts about you out of any ability to credit you with the source of their pleasure. So you can do a sociopath a favor and they would just turn around and kill you without any thought that doing so means you won't be doing them any more favors. If you come up against an aggressive sociopath, like a narcissist, the only way to control them is to find the source of their compulsions and push on that. But the best thing to do if you're in that situation is to use the breathing room to get away ASAP. Cut every possible tie, every possible link between the sociopath and anything in your life that they can influence. If they have an in on your job, by starting a relationship with your boss, for example, quit and move. Seriously. Last Edited by Andromeda on 03/30/2009 08:20 AM |

AsperGirl User ID: 637830 ![]() 03/30/2009 08:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Good stuff aspergirl. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 644309I have a hard time with the differences between a sociopath, psychopath and a malignant narcissist. They seem to overlap and get muddled. Well, a sociopath need not be narcissistic. A narcissist who is malignant is difficult to tell from a sociopath because many sociopaths are narcissists and vice versa. The two conditions are frequently co-morbid because they are interrelated and reinforce each other. The thing to do is to determine what the primary modal pathology is and then determine whether the secondary modal pathology is fully developed. Unfortunately, determining these things require a level of closeness to them and analyzing their behavior as they act out in different ways toward others, and no way you should get that close unless you're a therapist protected by there being a professional, not personal, relationship. If the person is primarily a narcissist, that should be flamingly obvious if you get to know them well enough. If you want more clinical type, subjective descriptions of narcissism, Sam Vankin's website has a lot of great anecdotes and plain-language descriptions. He uses the term "Narcissistic Supply" to describe the sort of compulsive feeding that narcissists do on others -- they get Narcissistic Supply from whatever attention they feed off of. For some Narcissists it's particular kinds of attention that they get Narcissistic Supply from, like fear or love. For others it's any attention at all. [link to samvak.tripod.com] If the person is primarily a sociopath, there will be some pattern of victimization and predation that goes beyond what the person needed merely to feed Narcissistically. A sociopath can become a con man, preying on old women and cleaning out their accounts after pretending to love them, for example. The sexual Machiavellian woman I had a brush with was primarily a narcissist, so I would diagnose her as a sociopathic narcissist. She engaged in her abuse primarily to feed her narcissism, despite the fact that she had all the features of sociopathy.. I'm not sure about the difference between psychopath and sociopath because I've never had personal experience with a psychopath, and I'm not a professional and have no clinical training. But I think a psychopath is just a really, really bad sociopath. Like a guy on a shooting rampage is worse than a guy who just has an anger problem. A matter of degree. You can look up the DSM-IV but it really, really sucks in the area of Axis-II disorders, which includes personality disorders. It doesn't clarify "sociopath" or "psychopath" even though everyone knows they exist. And it doesn't even acknowledge multiple personality disorder, which every other country in the world does. The DSM is currently being rewritten. [link to psyweb.com] |
