Wrong time to be training crews on a new weapons system, buy the weapon and 'rent' an experienced crew. I can only believe that Assad knows that but Putin balked at putting more of his people in a sitting duck position.

my opinion is that Putin wants Israel to attack Syria with 5th generation planes, he needs to test thrir concepts with real targets. Not necessary fire on them but check if their system can reliably track the planes.

The S-300 is a known system (and two generations obsolete BTW) and Putin knows full well what will happen- ping a target you give away your location, your crew is dead.

it is very old system but it lived trough a few of modifications.

what I read they work on modifications as we speak. S-300 in Syria may be sacrificial units.

Russians repared their old junk from Russia and gave it to Syria for free. They operate it with Iranian men. Behind all this there are S-400 or higher with Russians watching the tests.

what bothers me - India - they refuse SU-57 but shelled out over $5 Bil. for S-400. Russians had some selling points to demonstrate.

From my understanding is that the S-300s in Syria are not the same version as the S-300s tested in Greece by the Israeli and US aircraft, there has been major upgrades to the systems. Haven’t you noticed that Israel stopped all sorties into Syria.

We have ways of defeating A2AD missile systems.

Launching a series of dummy missiles that are not intended to hit targets but rather to mimic flight / radar signatures of just about any friendly aircraft. This causes S300 / S400, etc.. to believe a real target is inbound and they give away their locations.

Behind these missiles are the real firepower to take care of the targets.

not a big probkem, think, 600 km detection range, 400 km strike reach for S-400.Technically decoys may not reach the system.

i really think that it is not about hurting Israel but about selling more weapons, it us all bs, it all to keep oil price high and sell weapons. Iran knows that
