Yeah, the cops deserve praise for their work, for quickly getting the guy, and honestly for keeping her in the public mind, and I think your point is true of the how she was handled by the people who found her, was helped by their knowledge of the gravity of the situation.

but there is something to be said for not waiting for the authorities to save you.

I am sure the whole story will come out, but that race away from where she was being held had to be unbelievably frightening.
