Good or bad - VP of a company division wants to talk to me
So I was hired onto this company in a different role than my previous 20+ professional career. Although I love my current job I want to get back into what o know best which is PM. So I reach out to hr about what I need to do for a career path into PM, although I've done it I figure with a new company they have certain training etc that they want.

So about a week later I get an email from the vp of the division I am interested in. I'm sort of confused, I expected a supervisor or team lead or trainer to reach out, but the vp personally did and wants to talk to me. My previous email to hr detailed my experience.

What are your thoughts on this? Very strange, but maybe positive?

why not be optimistic? especially since it seems very positive. you said it yourself, why would a vp waste his time?

OP, do yourself a big favor and start trying to think positive.

good luck. get prepared and kick ass at your meeting

Thanks!! I should. My last job fucked me so bad, it probably has affected me... I'm glad to be where I'm at.

It's a good thing for you but not for your colleagues. You need to keep this meeting confidential between you and your bar buddies.
When the one great scorer comes to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost but how you played the game.

The stance and stare of a wolf you find yourself alone with will tell you that he is prepared to treat you as you would treat him. Whether that comforts or frightens you, he has told you all you need know about both.

I've not told anyone. Not even my sup or team lead. Why do you say what you said? Curious?

If the VP is not directly in your chain-of-command, then its positive, because he or she can't really fire you.

It's good. VPs won't waste their time unless interested...or threatened. Just dont try to act like you have "a better way" to do things. They hate that. Say you want to help execute his goals.

Rule #1 in business is to never tell a colleague or co-worker of any potential advancement or job change that may be in your future.

Believe me, they will work sabotage it at all costs.

You don't need that type headache.

Good Luck!

Thanks. My lips have been tight. Would it be appropriate to bring my resume along when I meet with them?

Yes, but only offer it at the appropriate time. Meaning after all of the small talk and the VP expresses interest in your background for PM position.
