Don't you think that cme's are just as important as flares when assessing solar activity?
Quoting: xenophon Sure I do. But not every flare will have a CME, and not every CME will have a flare/sun spot. The NOAA, and NASA CME prediction models both kinda suck. The CME is the dangerous part, but we don't have the satellite network we need to track them in 4d space. 99% of the time the two are related, making solar flares a good enough indicator of earth directed danger. Fair enough I used to monitor the videos around 2011/2013 and there were quite a few cme's without flares from what I can remember I'll poke around some and see if I can find you some stats.
