I love Lord death in this role.

It makes the grim reaper a hero.

Lord death trapped the ultimate evil within his own soul wavelength to prevent it from spreading madness to the world.

He did this at great personal cost to himself. By binding evil in one place, it meant Lord Death couldn't move from that place.

Death Meisters only go after the evil souls.

Me too, he seems more like a spirit/god. The way he changed his voice to that of 800 years ago was interesting too, think he said it was mostly so it didn't scare the children at the school. There was probably more to it

In Greece, Apollo was also the spirit/god of death.

There wasn't a great distinction between spirits and gods in many myths at least

I think it becomes problematic to try and personify god.

To do so places limitations on the entity.

That's not to say there are not godlike protectors.
It just helps to properly define what you expect from your god.

Gods as opposed to the God of everything. They could just be aspects of The God used also as archetypes. I prefer to see gods as spirits but see the other side too. Like how goddess and god are the first two aspects of the nameless in this universe

I see god at the universe. Everything else is simply a part of god. It keeps it simple while still allowing infinite possibility.
