The word "fascist" is often ascribed to Hitler and his Third Reich. A politician who supported animal rights and shed tears for Fido and Mitsy, and Porky Pig and Claribel the Cow because he didn't like humans thinking of animals as food.

He admired Islam but was unimpressed with Christianity.

He loved big-brother, all-seeing-all-powerful government. His political party contained "socialist" in its name.

He was homosexual and earlier in life trained to be an artist/painter.

He had lots of the traits of a person of the left, not right. He had a lot of similarities with a liberal/ultra-liberal/leftist shouting "start shooting fascists now."
